Thirst

I'd just like to hear the community's general opinion on thirst. Having played a black wizard lately, I've found I can't even solo New Banian because after a few minutes of using ethers and potions (or even elixirs), I have to stop to rest. Thirst really interupts the flow of training in pve. I know FFO is a party game, but there isn't always a party avaliable.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but thirst was added to fix the problem of pot chugging, right? I don't pvp all that much, but from my experience, people just switch to higher level pots, and one side still loses before it matters.

My question is this: Is thirst really necessary? I want to hear opinions on it. This is in discussion because its not a suggestion.

I don't think thirst really matters at this moment since players do high enough damage to where it doesn't even matter, or have things like X-Magic to make battles go a lot faster and such, and we have status spells to prevent pot cugging, and all sorts of other gimmicks that make thirst unnecessary.

Personally I think their should have been a suffix to increase how fast the thirst bar raises. Considering we have the same thing for health, mana, and Stamina, I don't think it would be too outrageous.

Anyone can potion chug, it shouldn't be a battle that depends on you chugging faster than they can heal. Overall, I like the system, but it's unfair to soloists.

My beefs with thirst-

A) It regenerates very slowly

B) There are no ways to increase its regen rate.

C) Stamina Potions drain it

Eliminate those qualms and it should be a pretty sweet system. Unless you give them the royal hookup early with tons of low tier wayfarer ****, Black mages drop stamina like a *****, and its "Do I stand around for 2 minutes with a thumb up my ass so I can walk again, or do I chuck back a stamina pot and screw over my thirst for later". There's really no need for stam potions to drain that ****, seriously. Chugging them wont exactly get you ahead in PvP.

EDITUU: What about introducing a type of item delay timer like you see in your standard MMO? Make it last for, I don't know, two to three turns worth of actions, however long a space of time you figure that to be. We get potions that work well every time we use them, and anyone who tries to pot chug in PvP will see just how scary three turns worth of damage is. Aside from that, pretty much all the status spells people use nork over your healing ability, and spamming status spells still remains the number one cheap infinitely abuseable PvP tactic that everyone is doing. Thirst does seem kind of unnecessary for anything but ****ing over solo players at this point. Especially the poor fat slow black mages and the melee classes that don't have access to chakra.

Personally I've never had a problem with thirst, even when soloing as a BM

@LP

There is a way to make thirst regen faster. Gaku actually made it so it regens faster than it used to. This update is kind of recent, past two months or something. You regen way faster when you're not in battle mode. In between fighting mobs, just go into OW for a sec and your thirst fills right back up.

Hm, I didn't see that update.. and I just tested it, and there is little to no difference that I noticed between thirst regen in OW and then in battle mode. It either isn't working properly, or is just so small a difference that you can't even tell.

I like the idea that thirst can recover itself faster outside of battle because although there are ways where thirst really gets in your way, I love knowing that people who try to spam pots in a fight aren't going to last very long that way.

Okay, this is a hard subject for me to pick a side about.

When I'm out in Irendi and burning an ether doesn't even restore half my mana when I'm in dark gear thirst really pisses me off, cause I have to hi-pot every 2-3 hits from a goblin, not a goblin guard, the normal goblins.

When people come and attack my BW, rather than zerking so "oh they can't use pots but their hits hurt ****ing worse now", I just keep hitting them and let them use pots till it doesn't work.

As for the "switching to higher pots so it doesn't matter" I've never really seen that. I mean, there's nothing to confirm your victory like seeing someone xpot for 170 health :D. Even without cure I can prolong a fight till the other side gives out.

Really I'd like to see thirst regen faster (especially since your delay going up seems to bug it so it doesn't regen at all).

Can we agree at least that stam pots draining thirst is ****ing pointless?

I can agree thirst should go up faster or give us thirst/hungry suffixes maybe

Yeah, I can agree on that, but I never even use stamina potions and my thirst still drops off massively if I have to put a potion anywhere near my character. Also, if I'm in a party, even with a white wizard, if I'm casting fast enough to kill a lot of mobs or something, my thirst drains pretty fast.

How about this, as I sit and watch my thirst meter. Triple the thirst regen rate. It won't be fast enough to allow you to pot chug in PvP or even PvE, but it wont be so slow that soloing is a painful chore for any non cure wielder. All in favor?

Nay.

Sounds like a soloing problem.

I'm in favor of that. It sounds like a good step in the right direction, but not too much at first.

I liked the item delay better, but this would be a lot simpler to put in, and wouldn't be abused by the other side. ("That blackmage just drank a stam pot! Waste him!")

Thirst increases 50% faster when you're out of battle.

That's nice and all, but it doesn't help people want to keep playing their class much when they still have to stop and sit in OW every few minutes while other classes can just train continuously. I've been in parties where either I or another black wizard (and occasionally the other mage classes) have had to ask the whole party to stop so thirst could regen, because their pots were useless.

If thirst is designed to stop pot chugging, why does it affect mana restoratives at all? Shouldn't it just affect the health ones, because its goal is to prevent people from keeping themselves alive by constantly using potion after potion? If it only affected health, that would not only make a lot more sense, but basically balance it across the board. Granted, white mages and red mages can still cure, but this would bring black mages up to even with all the melee classes, who don't seem to have a problem with thirst much at all. Correct me if I'm wrong.
