Remove the top tiers of heavy armor, OR lower their block rate.

Should probably remove like, giant's blades and ancient chucks too. Any weapon with 50 prof to wield should be on the chopping block IMO.

Remove Wizard staves. And moon, for that matter.

For all of these above I would like to propose instead of removing them (if they aren't forcibly cut out through lowered prof caps) but rather the points system be nerfed to all major hell. In the latest pwipe, the very second Garland produced Archwizard Hastes, BL Hastes, and Addy Pacings. I remember in hostings past just getting Hastes period was practically a pipe dream unless you spent a long time shop-camping. I think a large issue with this hosting was that the points were far too high, and especially that gold gains were immensely low compared to item drops. When the drops start that high, then there's not much to shoot for in a few months because everyone is walking around in capped gear anyway.

you ****ing hate it suggest an alternative instead of just being a stupid piece of ****

sup ***** i'd like to propose less ****ing cursing you ****ing **** ***** **** ******. ****.

nah j/k I like most of the suggestions except for what I proposed as a change above.

Also, I still disagree with more mechanical changes made to FFO if it is to be hosted again. The only real main changes needed are the level cap and prof cap ratio issue (with the top tier equipment removed) and bug fixes. I strongly disagree with any mechanical changes to any abilities, skills, equipment, or classes in general.
That is my opinion though, because as I said before, I think balancing FFO for the better of the casual players isn't really going to happen so save that part for Terulia and just make FFO playable.

Everyone is forgetting how broken the points were this server. I feel that would be an important change that is a mechanic fix.

Well, I was mostly referring to the mechanics of skills etc that everyone was suggesting right off the bat. I do agree with you though that gold, experience, and points are also major issues to be dealt with.

I'm not sure on experience. Maybe only the slightest nerf. If the cap gets raised to say, 30, then the experience would be fine in my opinion. People were claiming that it was boring being capped but I actually got to use skills that were usually forsook because there are always better skills to prof at the time.

Example: Regen. My Regen was a god damned monster and I was glad I had the extra experience to spend on it.

Yeah garland points are way too high. I remember when I was the god among men for getting some ****ty bandit wave boots off him because they were MOTHER****ING SPEED BOOTS, the first pair FFO had EVER. SEEN. An item like that would get you laffed at now, the current players go on and on about lul skill but they've never had to play a real ffo, where you better praise the holy lords of jiritsu if you got your hands on a chronos staff. This game is just SO MUCH BETTER BALANCED when people have to rely on mid tier gear, like we had to in 3.5 and early 4.0.

I can agree with LP on the gear. While I was hardly around for that portion of the game, a large portion of issues has a tendency to come from top-tier gear. While I do not know how Gaku coded it, I do speculate that the effectiveness of gear is exponential. The top-tier items should not be what everyone is carrying around if they expect to stand a chance but rather a bat-**** insanely rare piece to pray or hunt for.

I mean, two Addy Accels in one server what?

Actually, the only thing I would add to what I said before is that there be no more mobs spawned by GMs or Gaku that drop items/gold. It really breaks the game and Gaku can have equal fun by pretending that a champ pug he spawns will drop something to make players scramble over nothing :D

I'll think it over and post my final thoughts on the issue this evening. FFO will probably go back up on Saturday (no later than Sunday).

So uhh, here's my proposal to restore best balance possible from current shell with absolute minimal coding.

-Make level cap 30.

-Leave the prof formula alone.

-Lower power of tier 2 and tier 3 spells. Tier 1s can be lowered once live if it proves necessary.

-Make beef up defensive instead of offensive.

-Lower the points on monsters such as frost dragons and dark dragons if necessary. Ultimately we want to see no access to wizard staves and double bladed axes and ancient chucks and adamant and other top top top tier gear. It's supposed to be trophy **** but people keep finding ways to use it.

-Lower drop points on garland.

-Raise drop points slightly on quest bosses.

-Raise shop points slightly in argo.

-Raise light damage slightly, white mages could stand to have a little more PvE damage than what they do. It won't break them for PvP.

-Up gold drops slightly, 60% is a little much but like, 20% would be good.

-I still say life should be removed as well. It encourages too much bull****.

I disagree with this stuff.

The prof formula should be changed so that at level 30, if chosen to be the level cap, profs cap out at 45-50. Equipment and profs requiring past this should be removed, going with your top tier gear idea.

Any changes to abilities like power of spells or the actual nature of beef up would VERY likely result in more issues in the future, even if it doesn't look like it now. The combination of removing wizard and maybe moon staff plus a lower prof cap would definitely be enough to lower it to the level of melee.

I personally don't care if life is kept or not, but I think that the change it got is enough to be honest.

Points in shops were already raised and would be way too much is further increased, in my opinion.

discuss:

either:
- global level cap limit removed
- prof cap at 1.25*level + 8
- decreased exponential health/mana stat gains
or:
- level cap of 30
- prof cap of 55
monster drop values -20%
exp gains -33%
eq-based fizzling -50%
MW for thieves only
Dean's anti spam-killing measures
all damage values -25%
PVP damage -10% (-35% total)
armor block rates -20%
fire/ice spell damage -20%
lit spell damage -25%
tier 2 damage -20%
tier 3 damage -35%
Argo shop value +50%

Opt 1 with Dean measures or opt2 without the MW-thief-only. However, you could give thief/ninja classes a buff to MW, if that is even possible.

Edit: Also, why nerf lit/ice/fire?

as much as Id like to see what option one would be like, Option 2 sounds way better for balance for players of all types
