Basically if you have a palisade A and a palisade B and only one space between them you should be able to build bridges between them. This would make really interesting gates and checkpoints and such. Really help out a lot since as it is I feel like palisades aren't really worth it.

Are you talking about a bridge that can be passed over and under? I think that's near-impossible with the BYOND engine, since you'll have to detect and change layers and such, which will have a crapload of issues.

It was also impossible to have one way opacity.

Uh, yeah, that's FAR from impossible. Go play Dream Forge then talk to me.

Ravenok did some pretty awesome shit with that game. He mapped different floors of buildings on seperate Z layers and basically put them together in-game, so if you're on floor 2 and it has an opening in the floor then you can see floor 1.

That's a whole different ball game, and anyone under the bridge could attack anyone on the bridge and vice-versa. It's a good idea, but it would be a nightmare to program. Not to mention someone -under- the bridge could block someone -on- the bridge as well.

Unless BYOND has implemented layers of density, it doesn't seem reasonably possible.

@exo: Dream Forge doesn't have a mouse-based battle system, which is where things will fall apart. Can you imagine crossing a bridge that you can't see under, and getting attacked from beneath by an untouchable target? That was an issue in an RM2K project of mine.

But if Gaku can come up with a sharp solution to this, I will print this post and eat it.

God you're stupid your post is EXACTLY what half of us said about one way opacity.

Are you questioning LORD GAKU who made a fucking NO TILED PIRATE GAME IN ONE FUCKING NIGHT?!?!?!

Something like this is not hard at all rofl.

It's nothing like it would be to do true opacity in the way that we wanted(cause Gaku just did a work around for it, which we can see when the gates are closed and tiles that are in the domain beyond the gate are still visible).

having real-time opacity calculations...
might look into that but I expect it would be laggy
It would need to be similar to the lighting system changes (when you walk with a torch) but with much more computing involved.
The main problem with the bridge idea is, in this 2.5D world, someone could stand under the bridge completely out of site, block, grief, etc.

I was thinking of that. We'd have to make a bridge that didn't cover the entire tile some how... I was debating how to do that and make it look nice still... =|

Click bridge if someone's under it > target them
Click bridge without someone under it > walk there, if you're on the ground then you walk under and if you're on a pallisade you walk on the bridge.

Yeah I dunno if he has it on the HUB any more. There was a competition and the game was really fun actually. You could pick between a few ships and started your career...

The game in a day contest where they came up with a topic when the contest started to make sure no one cheated? I remember that. Didn't know Gaku entered.

Do you want to randomly click bridges to see if someone's under them?
I don't know, still doesn't sound like a solid system to me.

This would be cool, but we should leave it out and work on better things. Like getting Terulia out first...

This would effect both FFO and Terulia, since I'm assuming Terulia domains will have palisades with the same icons we already have...

Yes, but my point is that this isn't very important and Terulia's development is.

Realtime opacity calculations are relevant to Terulia's intrests.
