FFO Will No Longer Be On The Index, Byond Changes | |||

I'm not sure how many people noticed, but there has been an update to BYOND. I knew of this update, I spoke to someone who knows the staff of BYOND, and this new update removes fan-based games from the Index page on Byond. They did this because they feel like fan-based games need to look for different ways to get players for their games. You can still find games not listed on the index of Byond by simply looking on the right and clicking a tag it may be under.
The only tag FFO is under, is RPG. So I thought I'd make this topic to notify anyone who was unaware of the hub update to FFO and was wondering why they couldn't find the game's hub in the index of Byond. _________________________________________ |

What on earth is a BYOND index? I just use the BYOND program and go to Games in: BYOND RPG, if I somehow lose my bookmark. I guess that's what I get for never getting on any byond game other than this

This means that FFO no longer appears on the BYOND website, and more than likely will eventually get removed from appearing from being findable via the "BYOND RPG" section on the pager.
In order to continue gaining new players, it'll be important that Terulia get pushed out much quicker, and FFO dropped like a hot potato. Otherwise, the game will not gain new people, and without new people, the game will slowly die off. _________________________________________ |

Lets just change the name of the game and all the icons!

It's exactly what they are trying to do with fan-based games. They are going to push them off of the BYOND site, since those who run BYOND feel as though fan-based games have to look elsewhere to generate a player base off of the BYOND website. _________________________________________ |

I almost forgot this game was considered a fan game. this explains a lot. You could always turn on 'see fan games' and wade through the anime cesspool to find FFO, but you'll need military grade radar to find anything. Maybe kumog is right, this is a good incentive to push out Terulia like a premature baby from a rotted womb.

Lets just change the name of the game and all the icons! Would this work? I'm totally serious. FFO could be used as a testbed for all the Terulia icons and stuff and then Gaku shouldn't have to worry about lawsuits or not being on the index or anything like that. It could take some work, but it might be worth it, I wouldn't know though because I wouldn't be doing the work. _________________________________________ Signatures are SO last decade.

Even when it was on the index we didn't seem to get many new players. Byond just doesn't seem to bring in that many new users

It always seemed to me that the new players looking for fan based games flocked to Naruto GOA, or some DBZ rip where they can have over 9000 (cough) levels.

Yeah I think we concluded years ago that was the number one turn off for new people. Either way I think word of mouth always has been and may always be the main source of new players.
It helps those who like the game become die hard fans more often than not. _________________________________________ A good player knows how to play his class. An elitist knows how to play everyone else's class.

I've talked to people on other games about FFO, and most people haven't even tried it because they think it's just another ****ty fangame. Perhaps when Terulia does come out we'll see a massive influx of players that have never even played FFO simply because it looks like a whole new game.

It's not 100% new, it still uses the same engine and basic mechanics of FFO...Just new icons, skills, classes, maps, quests, monsters, features...
