Perma Chests, Why would you ever remove them

So what I've heard is that people who didn't get permas felt cheated and complained until they were removed, because permas gave good loot without work.

How is that true? All the best permas were in places difficult to solo, so that makes no sense.

I think we should get them back!

I agree completely, permas are what made soloing really worthwhile, in terms of gear damaged etc. Also its not like you get a solo champ very often so atleast nerfed permas should be brought back.

I agree. I think the real reason they were removed is probably because people who didn't want to have the extra work of trying to get them didn't want to fall behind people who put the effort in to do it.

I liked permas as much as the next guy, but they were OP for the amount of effort spent obtaining them and very often they gave better stuff than the monsters.

In my memory all of the "OP" permas were in difficult zones.. and from what I have seen, champ rates were increased significantly, so I have to disagree.

Not really. Garland was full of chests and they gave ridiculous stuff if left to accumulate. It's by no means hard. I was soloing the monsters there and grabbing them all easy.

Garland temple chests were far from ridiculous, unless there was a recent buff that led to this whole no-permas situation.. in which case the buff should just be reverted.

Garland's temple could give really good shit. Or do you not consider high level suffixes ridiculous? Think about how easy it is to run in, take chests, and leave. None of those pathetic mobs stand a chance against people, simply because they don't scale. Not to mention it was absolutely free gold, and quite a bit of it. No effort whatsoever. Quit trollin'.

Chests were a great way to make money and a reason to play ffo at 5am. i used to make 50-60k a morning easy with a few spots and i didnt hit any hard areas at all.

maybe a personal chest would be better so instead of tough players running around getting chests every morning and night, amd newbs not getting any.
You could have Player A goes to a perma chest and gets his personal treasure from that specific chest based on his level, class and how long its been since he last got it. maybe once a week or 2 it gets shit in it again

I wonder if anyone remembers how we've been trying to make partying more worthwhile.

That would ruin the economy of ffo even more.

Might be a good idea to not give more people easier ways to dupe gold/items.

reply to Korin on the Cob:

Would you suggest he adds a very difficult way to dupe gold/items?

I'm certainly not saying to make it easier to do.

I still think that with a nerf of the level of gear provided a little and/or a much larger cooking time permas are totally possible to be fair for everyone.

Massive quantities of low effort loot? That's bad.

Some loot that you could just have gotten superior items from champ hunting much faster? That's a bit more logical.

I seriously think there's a middle ground here where we can satisfy fans of perma chests as well as people who believe the game is better without them.

Another idea maybe would be to instead totally rework permas. What if instead of them being randomized, having a cooking time and restocking, they were in set places (like the old days), had a certain range of randomness depending on location, and were only able to be harvested once?

Edit:
Chests in low areas could contain a lot less worthwhile loot while those in places that are extremely hazardous could contain gear relative to the appropriate difficulty of the dungeon or area. That way, people can't farm them (unless they wanna like, level a guy all the way to a high level just to snag them for some reason), they give a randomized item that isn't too OP for where they are, and they aren't a main objective - more like a casual reward for exploring new terrain.
