The basic idea of the name rules is to prevent names like Cloud and Sephiroth, or famous people, or names that look like screen names. That's all we want to stop. I'll check with Gaku again, or he can post here, but I'm pretty sure that's what the name rules are supposed to do. That's why theres only two of them. If you guys can think of a better way to word them, I'll do it. I just figured the way they are now was pretty simple.

There will always be a gray area though. Those are impossible to avoid. That's why we have a constitution, a ton of amendments, even more laws, and a Supreme Court that debates them all day. Its impossible to eliminate grey areas in rules such as this.

For simplicity and elimination of gray rules, allowing everything but vulgarities and racial slurs would fix this.

I would be perfectly fine with that, but that wouldn't stop Clouds, Sephiroths, XxXbadboisXXX's and the like. As I pointed out in my last post, to my knowledge Gaku doesn't want any of that on FFO.

Well the hope is that names like that would be stonewalled by renamers. It's just that right now the rules sorta...I don't know encourage(?) renamers/guides to scrutinize names for obscure references and the person using the name to try and con his way around it. Gets both sides frustrated.

Vulgarities, slurs/putdowns, screennames, is a good start.

What one person might think is a screen name another might not. We don't need anymore fights between renamers about that.

My ****ing god, amend the name rules as follows and we should be golden.

-aLtErNaTinG caps, numbers, and "borders" Such as *Jenny* or xXGodly HellXx will not be tolerated. You are creating character names, not screen names.

-Vulgar names will not be tolerated. If you cannot say it on nsay without it being starred out, you cannot use it or a variation of it as a name. References to body parts or bodily functions are out as well. Sorry, no **** Hahd or Kakku Sahkhur or Ed Penishands or Kweef will be allowed to walk the mean streets of FFO/Terulia.

-No flaming of any sort in names. This includes specific flames such as Gakoo Suhks or just bland derogatory terms such as Sucks, Stupid, Dumb, or any spelling variants of such. Alternate spellings/similar wording to mirror famous character names is also considered flaming/trolling and will not be tolerated (Magl, Cold Farted, Sinsay, Lard Penix, GarraI, etc.)

-Renamers will offer all offending parties a chance to pick a new name, if they are non responsive or non cooperative a new name will be chosen for them. Should you be unhappy with the name a Renamer chooses for you, you may respectfully request to have it changed, this request will be honored or dishonored at the Renamer's discretion. Otherwise, renamers will not offer name changes simply because you want them.

-Special cases not handled adequately in the above, or any cases where a renamer is unsure of how to proceed, will require a renamer to seek an administrator's input. A player may also contact an admin themselves if they are unhappy with the decision, this should be handled either through the guides and moderation forums or through a private message to the current in game admin(s) across the forums system.



Yes that last one is a catch all clause, **** you. Yes, this is a lot to read. However, it's quite clear, it catches all the things we don't want or need, and it allows a good bit of freedom in naming choices.

Honestly, if you change the exception line to specifically "no Cloud or Sephiroth or variations of these namnes allowed" it'd take care of everything. Those two names are the infamous ones everyone knows the reference to and attracts the annoying fanboys. Every other cartoon or celebrity name as far as I'm concerned is no big deal.
