Um relle u renamed it to pants and u think silly from the internet wouldn't find their way onto a fangame played over the internet. Gaku even added ponies into FFO for ****** sakes you think gaku would have a problem with similar things like pony names?

By your logic, since its a Final Fantasy based game, we should all name ourselves Cloud. _________________________________________ |

Well now, since FFO is off the hub and the extremely small player base it has now with no new players coming in, why are things like this even bothered to be enforced?

This will be the uh... eighth+ time asking you this, in the past 24 hours. WHAT DOES THE PLAYERBASE SIZE HAVE TO DO WITH THE ENFORCEMENT OF RULES? In case you have yet to thoroughly read the question yet: WHAT DOES THE PLAYERBASE SIZE HAVE TO DO WITH THE ENFORCEMENT OF RULES? And just in case it wasn't big enough for you to read again: WHAT DOES THE PLAYERBASE SIZE HAVE TO DO WITH THE ENFORCEMENT OF RULES? _________________________________________ |

Its not the size of the player base letha but the new players that matter. The new players would try to make names like their screen name which obviously doesn't fit in this game like names with numbers in them which makes sense for it to be changed but anything else would seem fine other than names like "die letha die" or "newbiekiller"which are common sense not joke names.

This brings up a good point... At some time in the future, it might be a good idea to "reserve" a lot of these names.

You talked about the small playerbase and enforcing rules. So again I ask... WHAT DOES THE PLAYERBASE SIZE HAVE TO DO WITH THE ENFORCEMENT OF RULES? Can you just give me a direct answer for once? I would hope that to someone who's new to the game, a renamer would take the time to explain why this rule is in place. You should know why already. We don't want 10 "TwiLlgt Sparckels" running around for example. edit: This isn't quite as critical in FFO, obviously. _________________________________________ ScouSin: Damn you Gaku! Here is some Admin input. First of all, I believe we discarded the "No pop culture referrences" for the much more encompassing rule of, "If it is something people would name their child, **** be fine."
I think we can all understand, as delirious sicknasty ponies are, their names ain't human. On ambiguous names, of course one Renamer will feel different, but with this name, tough ****. Second of all, JT, I swear you tried pony names like five times already why did you think this one would fly? _________________________________________ SMUG.MOMENTAI

I read that the first time. I know some people have beliefs to that, and most BYOND games follow that rule, but people need to take into account that FFO (as well as Terulia) has a more roleplay-based theme to it, even if people don't generally roleplay much, if at all. That is how the naming aspect of the game is for the most part, much like Shane's excellent comment about "If it is something people would name their child". Seriously Pantsu (why do I keep wanting to spell Panstu?), ask yourself: "Would I seriously name my child Derpy Hooves? How about Doctor Whooves? Durp Or Bust? Any other MLP-based name that I had before Relleth renamed them?" And I don't mean just you; I mean would anyone name their children that? I'm not sure if you play other BYOND games avidly, but from what I've seen from most others, their rules are not nearly as strict as our naming rules. That being said, keep the less-RP names for the other games, not FFO/Terulia. _________________________________________ |

You're never going to have a completely fair system which is not subject to human bias unless you make the players choose a name from a randomly generated naming system or you allow all names.

Who decides what parents name their kids? Who knows if the parents were high on imp blood when they named him (or her, I'm not sexist). A good RP would be to rp kill people with ***gy douchey names. Do the random name generation thing like Dean says, or make all names acceptable and let the players deal with it themselves.

I'm pretty sure Gaku could come up with a sophisticated name gen system without too much effort. He could even put filters on the name generation so that you can get a certain style of name. Many culture's names follow a pattern when it comes to syllables and letters used, etc. You can also filter out random unintentional vulgarities, download lists of pre-existing names from name databases online, etc.

This topic?
AGAIN? Lol you guys. I cant tell you how many times ive pushed for a clear set of rules that all the renamers could follow. We even had numerous sets made up. but no one cared enough to like, vote on it, and you know, enforce it. but yeah, common sense etc, dont be stupid etc. _________________________________________ |

This topic? This. We don't need random name generators or complete freedom with names. We need rules and people who enforce them. _________________________________________ |
