Books in Terulia

At first I was thinking it would be cool if players could submit books they wrote ingame to Gaku to "publish" them as extremely rare loot drops in Terulia. So say someone wrote a book documenting magic in FFO, from an in character perspective. Then a year from now someone else looted that and read it, it would be like reading a book from another world except written by an actual player. Instead of making players actually write this ingame, though, they could just write things and submit them to be approved. If not by Gaku, the approval could go through the dev team or current team of admins, if the idea got approved, of course.

I think it would be cool if players could submit books they wrote ingame to be "published", as in saved and put in a book in Terulia's code and added to random loot with an extremely low chance. This would be a nice way to add some extra flavor to Terulia. Imagine finding a book in loot that documents a war, or battle, or even the magic the way it is in FFO, and not only that but is written by a player from this time period. Of course this is common knowledge to us today, but imagine finding it in Terulia. It would be like a window into another world. It wouldn't take much effort to add, either, I don't think. Plus it'd be a cool way to add depth to lore, and like a glimpse into the past that the players can personally relate to.

Of course, afterward I realized most people probably don't use the books ingame as they are much, so people could just write things and submit them in regular documents and they could be added to books in the code. They could be submitted to Gaku, or if he didn't want to do it himself (but approved the idea, of course), the dev team or admin team could approve them.

What do you guys think?

Unless these books gave proficiency boosts related to their relevant topic I'd be kinda peeved if my ultra rare shiny loot drop turned out to be some book telling me crap I already knew.

Would be cool if people got involved and wrote stuff that didn't suck.

Reminds me of TES, though, and I loved reading a lot of the books in that game. The Death Blow of Abernanit is one of my favorites. ;o

Why does it need to give anything other than an enriched playing experience? It'd be more useful than carbonate is right now, and it's not like it's a quest drop of some sort. Just something that you can find while training and enjoy.

I like the idea, if Gaku agrees then I'll probably try to write something worth being read by a newbie in Terulia.

It would be nice to see an elder scrolls style book system, where, you know, you get all this fantastic and well written lore thats enjoyable to anyone, and sometimes the knowledge makes you a little better at something your character can do.

Sounds interesting enough. I'm all for more immersion into the game and more rich in-game lore for FFO. If books were more than just "Hahhaha haha, I wrote a funnah joke", then it would be great.

Hey I'm not disagreeing. If Gaku wants to make 'em give a bonus too I'm all for it!

I have no problem with that as well. I didn't suggest it because I don't know anything about how stats will work in Terulia, and I didn't think of it at first anyway.

This is all workably good idea, under the assumption that Gaku would be willing to put in books as an experience/prof rewarding item rather than simply canon to the lore and just an interesting read.

Either way, I'm hoping I my contribution will be added.

I actually like the idea of becoming better attuned to certain proficiencies based on your reading habits, and it makes perfect sense in the RP realm. You read books about the legendary thief IHateMyself (as if gaku would ever allow it) and as a result are better able to learn the arts of the dagger and thievery.
