Forum data is now "zipped" prior to transmission.
Most text-only pages are compressed by about 83%.
You don't have to do anything special to unzip forum data;
virtually all modern web browsers do this by default.

Pros:
less memory needed per page request
shorter transmission times for page data
less data transmitted (on the same data line as the FFO server)
faster page load times

Cons:
uses more processing power

Given the current traffic levels, the server has plenty of memory and processing power to spare and the downside is negligible.
