I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on the ethics of auto-activating players' TRC accounts and auto-subscribing them to channels. This was prompted by a discussion with IainPeregrine, who specifically wants all of his games' users to be able to chat with each other without any additional work (i.e. activation, etc.). Discuss.

I think if you could set it up so that in the library you have a special field that basically says, "Hey, put the name of a default channel here and users will auto-subscribe" then it would be quite fine, since it would be the creator's decision whether or not it would happen.

Sounds like a good idea to me. If it really bothers them they can unsubscribe or complain to their game of choice's owner.

Ok; done.
Players who join FFO are automatically subscribed to the 'ffo' channel.
Other developers can likewise auto-subscribe their users to their own channels.

Love this idea. One suggestion though is to have every game auto-sub to Main and the forum for it's game. That way all games linked to TRC would also be linked to the main forum where all the updates, bugs, etc are listed.

Main is also used for Terulia/FFO, though, and very often used by FFO's player-base. Really, for the short time I was not blacklisted from Ffo, I hardly saw people use it as a channel on the game. Either people used Main or some private channel with a specific affiliation. It would probably be better to let the users wander to Main of their own accord if they really want to follow/report an issue.

That could be solved if we had a separate forum that was moderated by kumog/locke instead of haze and crew and that was made to be the default channel.

The problem with that though is Terulia Forum Service: Main should be the forum to deal with forums bugs/updates/suggestions and TRC bugs/updates/suggestions as the name implies. I think that the FFO/Terulia Discussion, Suggestions, Updates, and bug reports should be moved to a different forum, or have a new one created for them. That is, if Gaku likes the idea of having the other games connected to the main Terulia forum automatically.

When I saw Iain using TRC the only channel he was subscribed to was "FFO".

IMO auto subscribe should be with the game the player logs into and "Main".


I had no problems with when he was using "FFO" as a channel.

Still it wouldn't be hard to have a conversation with him on the main one as well. Seeing how it's very easy to switch between channels.

For the sake of making things less confusing. If it's possible to just change MAIN to TERULIA and just make a completely new MAIN for other BYOND games.

The problem before was getting people set up TRC in the first place. The auto subbing feature is a good addition.
