Thanks :) Yeah, "The Napoleonic Wars Musical" is one of my favorite videos of all time.

The "subscriber EXTRAVAGANZA!!!" is really a joke/satire:

... first of "subscriber specials". In fact most of these videos are ones that would have been made regardless of subscriber count. A subscriber special is just a way to brag about the number of subscribers you have and entice more to people to subscribe, as if it has any bearing on future videos.

... and second, of a brony in a local group I'm involved in. He wanted to make an unoriginal live-action "pony" video (literally, people had done it before, and better), but BEFORE he even started, DEMANDED that 100 people subscribe to his channel. That's just so ****ed up...

It would be really hilarious if EqD had any mention of this video on their site, but I can guarantee they won't. The reason it would be hilarious is that my next sort-of-planned video is going to be about corruption at/of EqD.

Well yeah, I knew it was a joke -- and people should make their best stuff irrelevant of number of subscribers, though I do get why it 'excites' people into doing more -- but that sounds bizarre, to demand subscribers on some youtube channel to actually do something of worth. Whatever, man.

I would point out that it's less about being 'good enough' for something to get on EqD so much as just sending it to them and hoping one of their small staff sees it and deems it worthy -- and trust me, EVERYTHING is worthy at least of a space on the Nightly Roundup. The whole point of that site always has been and still is "we will show you EVERY NEW PIECE OF FAN CONTENT created involving pony, at least up to a certain level of sexuality or otherwise adult material. And even then, we'll post some of that, under 'saucy' tags or whatever". Well, that, and a lot of crappy administrator shennanigans, like Phoe (who I DO like, anyway, since she started the whole Newbie Artist Trianing Ground thing that's become a weekly undertaking I've been doing for over a year now) and her HEADLINE POSTS THAT TAKE UP 1/4TH OF THE FRONT PAGE consisting only of her OC pony drawn as an eevee, or something.

Corruption of EqD, though? Is that just a joke or has that site actually changed at all since its inception? It's gotten bigger, but the attitude and style of everything is like exactly the same in my eyes -- in fact, it's a lot more 'presentable' than it used to be. I vividly recall my first time linking it in a pony chat in Jan '11 when it was still extremely new, only to have it debunked as a 'terrifying site never to be viewed again' since one of the top news stories was headlined by an image of Rainbow Dash and AJ making out. And for a very long time, Seth would put sometimes *VERY* suggestive Twilight and/or Trixie fanart on the headlines, since it was obviously to his tastes. That kind of stuff has calmed down quite a lot that I've seen, and though sites like Derpy Hooves News do the same kind of thing more professionally, it's still probably the best site out there for an exhaustively comprehensive amount of pony news and new content. Unless you prefer a giant-sized helping of negativity and depravity with your pony on /mlp/, or digging through threads on Ponychan or something.

Well, I didn't know that. I would say it's not TOO big a deal -- splitting that amount of money however many ways among the main admins of the site such that no single one of them would be making more than something roughly equal to the lowest-paying, lamest job they could get otherwise per year -- but knowing they make even the tiniest crumb of money makes me feel like they could certainly be doing a lot of things better. But I don't know how 'bad' it really could be. It's certainly still the single most popular pony-related site overall and some elements of it are reflected in the community (Trixie probably wouldn't even be remotely as popular otherwise, more like Flimflam bros.-tier or something, though I'm not at all complaining about that as I quite adore her visual design and voice at least) but I don't think it really 'controls' the community to such a grand degree; I'd put that more on /co/ and ponibooru in the earliest days and ponychan/derpibooru and such sites now (less-so /mlp/ since it's obsessive over having people believe it's somehow a separate community from the rest of the pony community at large), y'know, the social sites. And since at least Derpibooru is a far less-awful, faster, more organized and actively-moderated ascention of ponibooru and ponychan's just fine from all I know about it, I'm not too concerned on that front.

I have to admit I'm curious, though, as to if you know things I don't or that I just haven't payed attention to regarding EqD since your concern about it seems to be much higher than mine. Or maybe I just don't know enough about money yet to realize that a group of ~6 or 7 people sharing $50-80k a year over a blog about cartoon pony butts is as terrible and shameful a thing as I should.

When I get a new computer I'd be so down to play The Napoleonic Wars. I watched the video a couple of times and the guy ((Criken)) who makes these videos are hilarious. It's one of the few Let's Play channel I've subbed to because the comments are too good.
