Group: Members Posts: 45 Total: 1255	distance: 8.5 miles total confirmed miles to date: 825 The canal was dug by slaves in about the 1850s to connect the Wacissa and Aucilla Rivers. If you enjoy avoiding poison ivy and deadfall in creative ways, then this is the river for you. (Poison ivy does surprisingly well as an aquatic plant, growing out of submerged logs in the middle of the river in many places.) I'd made it about half-way once before, so I knew what to expect. Luckily someone brought in a chainsaw and cleared some of the fallen trees that blocked me last time; others have fallen since. Wacissa River: completed rapids where the crystal clear spring water exits the canal and dumps into the brackish lower Aucilla's backwater low tide, still falling light rain at the US-98 bridge usually I only have spiders rain down on me when I bump into a tree... back to safety _________________________________________ ScouSin: Damn you Gaku!
